Dr. Joan Rodés, Professor Emeritus at the University of Barcelona, is a doctor and researcher specialized in liver diseases.
In 1972 he founded the Hepatology Unit at the Clinic Hospital, which scientific activity is recognized internationally. Moreover, in 1993 he created the Institute of Biomedical Research Agustí Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS). He directed the institution since 1993 until 2008.
Dr. Rodés has been Medical Director (1984-1986), Research Director (1997-2003) and CEO (2003-2008) at the Clinic Hospital. He has received several awards, including the National Prize for Medical Research Gregorio Marañón (2006) and the Performance Recognition Award of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (2007). He obtained the Gold Medal of the Generalitat of Catalonia in 2015.
